On 21 March 2026, an educational event was held at the Maritime School of Makhinjauri to mark World Down Syndrome Day, with the participation of 11th and 12th grade students. As part of the event, a presentation entitled “Chromosomes Are Not Counted” was delivered.
World Down Syndrome Day has been observed since 2006. The date is symbolically significant, as 21 March represents trisomy— a condition in which an individual has an extra copy of chromosome 21, resulting in a total of 47 chromosomes.
The aim of the presentation was to raise students’ awareness, disseminate information, and promote positive changes in societal attitudes. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of inclusion and on the recognition that every individual is unique, regardless of differences.
